OFFF Conference Review: What I Learned (And Didn't Expect)
When I booked my ticket to the OFFF Conference in Barcelona, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect—but I was buzzing. Known for being a global gathering of designers, thinkers, and creative leaders, OFFF promised three jam-packed days of inspiration. But what I walked away with wasn’t just a highlight reel of design trends—it was a mix of unexpected insights, creative storms, and vibrant human connection that left me thinking, feeling, and journaling.
Here’s a look at what stood out during my first OFFF experience.
A Different Kind of Learning
Walking into OFFF, I imagined structured talks filled with practical takeaways. But in reality? It was very different. Rather than tidy step-by-step advice or portfolio tips, the conference leaned deeply into agency processes, behind-the-scenes journeys, and philosophies around creativity.
It wasn’t about me or how to grow my practice directly—it was about them: how agencies and artists build, break, experiment, and evolve. While unexpected, this shift in perspective was fascinating. I got to peek inside the minds of creatives I admire, understand their process, and see the messy middle that usually gets edited out.
It may not have ticked the traditional learning box, but it reminded me that even observing is a powerful form of growth.
Navigating the Creative Storm with Randim
One of the most transformative parts of the conference for me was the “How to find calm in creative storm” workshop led by Randim. If you’ve ever faced burnout, creative block, or questioned why you’re in the industry at all (hello, me too), this workshop was for you.
Rather than lecturing, Randim created a collaborative space where we openly discussed how the creative storm shows up—overwhelm, fatigue, disconnect—and how we might recognise and soften it before it spirals. Hearing other creatives from around the world share their experiences made me feel less alone and more hopeful.
Note to self: storms pass, and sometimes the best way through is to talk, reflect, and listen.
3. Community, Conversation, and the Power of Similarity
One of the most beautiful things about OFFF was the people. Meeting creatives from all corners of Europe—and even further—was one of the biggest highlights. From quick chats between sessions to deeper convos over lunch, it became clear: we’re all chasing something meaningful in this space.
Despite our different backgrounds, we were united by our passion for creativity. Hearing stories of dreams, challenges, side hustles, and studio life was a grounding reminder that, no matter where we are in the world, connection through creativity is real and powerful.
4. Colour, Chaos & A Lot of Stickers
The OFFF experience isn’t just talks—it’s a full-on creative playground. One of the most unexpected joys was seeing artists sketch and create live work on the walls of the building. The energy was electric. Colour exploded everywhere, and each piece felt like a visual love letter to creativity.
Then there were the booths. As someone who adores a good freebie (who doesn’t?), I was living for the stickers, notebooks, postcards, and unexpected goodies. Shoutout to the Adobe team who brought their A-game—I’ve been a long-time fan, so seeing them in action was surreal.
Oh, and the goodie bag from OFFF? Let’s just say, 10/10 would recommend it.
5. The (Very) Real Challenges
Of course, it wasn’t all perfect. Choosing between multiple talks on different stages was a logistical mind-bender. Do you see the legendary speaker or check out the up-and-comer? It’s like trying to pick your favourite font (impossible).
Also, the late starts threw me off. As someone used to early mornings, kicking things off at 10 am felt like a slow crawl. And, due to a booked flight, I missed most of the final day—note to self: book the extra day next time.
Still, the energy, inspiration, and connections far outweighed these minor hiccups.
Would I Go Again?
Absolutely. With a bit more planning and a few extra days to explore Barcelona, I’d return to OFFF in a heartbeat. The mix of creative energy, honest conversations, and the international community left a lasting impact.
It wasn’t the conference I expected—but it was one I needed. And sometimes, that’s the best kind.
